Morning of Day 6

When I got up this morning, I was starving.  Really hungry. So, I fixed a really large breakfast.   Still have diarrhea.  I resisted the urge to get on the scale.  I know I shouldn't be focused on the scale.  But I can't help it.

Breakfast
no-atmeal
vegetable & sausage fritata topped with salsa & avocado
honey dew melon

This morning, I was watching the today show and they were talking about weight loss.  The lady said that plant based oils were fine in diet--things like avocado, olive, nut oils . . .she said animal oils are bad when consumed in excess.  This seems contradictory to what I am doing now--although, I am eating a lot of plant based foods.

  1. Pretty much everything you will see/hear on news and tv shows is wrong. I know it sounds crazy, but once you look into the actual research it becomes clear that what we hear from the media is typically garbage.

I'm generally against the scale in the beginning, but I completely understand the drive to see those numbers. Take measurements, some "before" photos, and make a mental note of how your clothes fit. If you do those things, and rely on that primarily, then looking at the scale is fine as long as it remains just another tool instead of the your final judgment of success vs failure.

Breakfast looks pretty good. eggs, sausage, and avocado are all great food choices. The noatmeal is mediocre, and the melon is a nice treat. Overall solid for this early in the transition. Good job :)

I looked into the digestive problems you're having, and it looks to be somewhat common in the beginning. We had the opposite problem when we first started. I think we didn't poop for 4 or 5 days when we first switched, but we were coming from an old diet with a *ridiculous* amount of fiber. Everything now is perfect, and I promise it will get better as your body adjusts.

In the mean time, people have had success with taking some digestive enzymes until their body adapts. Robb Wolf (a biochemist that we trust who researches paleo and has a podcast) recommends the NOW foods super enzymes http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Super-Enzyme-capsules/dp/B000Y8AT0O/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1277256032&sr=8-3 . If you buy some, make sure to get the capsules, and not the tabs.

Keep logging your food if you don't mind, and I'll keep an eye on it and give feedback. Make sure you're eating enough. In my experience most people can't let go of the idea that they have to always feel hungry or they're eating too much. We weren't designed to be hungry all the time. If you're hungry, EAT. As long as you are making good food choices, your body will adjust and you will only feel hungry when you should be. And don't be afraid of eating FAT. Our bodies are designed to run off fat as a primary fuel source (that's why we store energy as fat).

I respect your dedication to this so far. You're doing a great job, keep it up!

  2. Thanks, Mike for commenting. And thanks for your encouragement. It definitely makes a difference when there is encouragement. I can't wait to see how things look at the end of the month.

I will look into getting the Super Enzymes. The diarrhea is getting better. It's only in the mornings now.
